The minimum time period is usually between 2-4 weeks.

There are no general tuition fees. However the higher education institutions in Thuringia charge students long-term tuition fees in the amount of 500 EUR for each semester in which the standard period of study (RSZ) is exceeded.

Students must pay a semester fee. It is made up of the contributions to the student body (currently 10.00 EUR) , to the Studierendenwerk (Student Services) (currently 85.00 EUR) and for the semester ticket (currently 51.23 EUR) meaning a current total of 146.23 EUR every semester.

Installments are not possible as the semester fee is due for the upcoming semester at the end of the current semester.

Some of the facilities offered on this campus include a student library, computer labs, a cafeteria and canteen, childcare, football fields, basketball courts, and a beach volleyball court.

Student Dormitories: There are three student dormitories in Schmalkalden, two are located directly on campus and the other is located in a more residential area, a five minutes’ walk away from campus . The dormitories provide two different types of apartments: single apartments as well as single rooms in a shared flat of two or three people. All rooms are fully furnished.

Private housing: Most students rent their flats at one of two housing companies in Schmalkalden: the Wohnungsbau GmbH and the Wohnungsgenossenschaft Schmalkalden eG. The companies offer affordable housing in different ways. There are non-furnished and furnished single or shared flats for students. All these flats are close to campus within no more than a 15-minutes’ walk.

Be sure to apply for a room at least three months prior to your arrival in Schmalkalden. Also, do not miss to respond to any confirmation emails sent by the dormitory management; otherwise, your application may cease to be valid.

By Train: Schmalkalden does not have its own train station. However, you can take a train to the nearby city of Meiningen or Zella-Mehlis, both of which have train stations with connections to major cities in Germany. From there, you can take a bus or taxi to Schmalkalden.
